| Post subject: | Long Tube Cliffords & Deep 904 Pan Interference |
Hello, I am sure Someone Here has run Long Tube Cliffords for 67-76 A Bodys and Also A Deep Trans Pan on a 904 before I have never had Log Tube Cliffords on an automatic Slant... This is my first time. - I have a set of mopar Performance 6 into 1's on ruster.. Trying the Clifford Long Tubes 3 into 2 to see if there is any performance advantage. It appears that the Collector from the front 3 Is hitting the Deep 904 Pan.. I think with a stock pan it would not be a problem and Clear fine. What would be the Best way to Proceed? Ding the Pan A Bit? Bend the Headers? (i think this one is a can of worms- Throwing off other Alignment / clearances.) Grind the Collector flange a bit? Maybe a bit of all 3? Thanks, Greg |

I would probably do a combination. I have not found the long tubes to fit well at all in the trans department. I am about to try another set on my '64 Dart with a stick. Lou |

I'm with Lou,Take a little from each. Is it the tube or flange that touches the pan? |

I see you said flange,You should be ok trimming that. In some cases the tubes give easy. My neighbor hooked the collector on his trailer last week and bent the header really bad. He grabbed the collector and just about pulled the tubes back in place.Just a thought. |

Lou With a stick should be fine... I have a set on the 69 Dart... No Problems. With a custom Bell and a T-5 .... Well Now jack Did not design them for that. Greg |

Does your Dart have the OD bellhousing? That is what mine has, and the T5 adapter does not stick out past that. We shall see in ~ 2 wks when I set it in the car. Lou |

I have the Cast Iron 4 speed Bell in the dart.. I would think that the AL BH is dimensionally fairly close to the outer footprint of the Cast one.Lou Best of Luck! Greg |

If it is on the race car, why not just cut that extra weight (the flanges) off completely. Your not going to run exhaust anyway. Honestly, if that would give you the room I would take a whizzer wheel to it in a heartbeat. Keep the flange and you can Mig it back on if you need to. Are you coming to mason Dixon Saturday!! Rick |

I plan on adding collector extensions and "tuning" the Exhaust as I did with the 6 into 1's So I do need the Flanges.. I could Cut them up etc.. But I think Tuned exhaust and getting the Correct backpressures and Wave scavenging action is more important than a few ounnces of weight loss in this instance with this part. Not going to MD - Will be going to Pittsburgh where they prep the staring line Greg |

Yes, should be very close, I currently have a set of clifford long tubes in the Hyperpak Duster, and the flanges are close to the OD bellhousing and the flanges are a little "tight" close together under there but are OK once you figure out the "nesting" of the flanges and bolts. I will say if you have new or the poly spool bushings they will raise the engine enough that you will need some 'persuasion' on one of the tubes as it will be in contact with the centerlink making hard turns on manual steering more work in the cockpit.-D.Idiot |

Thanks, guys. I would also second cutting off the flanges and just slipping/welding tubing on the end. That flange design is horrible (from the 1950s or something, and cheapie at that). It is a testament to the stubborn nature of humans that we still buy headers with those flanges on them. Lou |

Hey, 1950 folks AND guys in their 50s have designed a LOT of amazing stuff! Not making a general statement, just saying some designs have persisted when they shouldn't have. Heck, I work on Slant 6s designed and first built in the 50s, so what does that make me?? Lou |
