Post subject:  O-ringing block for boost

Just trying to learn a little more on boosting a slanty. Looking to find out a little more about O-ringing a block for boost. When you o-ring how much bigger is the diameter of the O-ring in relation to the bore? Another thing is O-ring wire size. The only thing that I have read here is using 0.041" wire. Is that a standard size. Thanks in advance. John

The diameter you bore the o-ring groove isn't really critical, but you need to make sure it is outside the bore of the gasket by a decent amount so it will fall entirely outside of it. O-ringing is also best done with a copper head gasket. Many different o-ring wire sizes are available, but .032", .041" and .062" are the most common thicknesses used. Its also common in very high boosted and nitrous engines to have a matching receiver groove machined in the head to mirror image the placement of the o-ring wires location on the deck surface.
