Ok this is what I think happened, I had a fuel leak so I decided to fix it, as I drained the tank around 10 litres of fuel got contaminated with proof coat and paint. After the successful job of fixing the leaking fuel sender I had no where to dump the fuel so I just put it back in the tank. Went for a good hard drive around 6 miles later no power, so I turned around and went home and had a think.... Mmmm what is it know? dirty fuel, blocked cadbi? Did a bit of research and found out that dirty fuel can cause valves to stick, as soon as i read that I instantly thought pushrods.

Took the valve cover off and there I have it number 1 intake and exhaust push rods bent like bananas. A valve adjustment was due that's why I pulled the cover off first. So my diagnosis..???

Dirty Fuel- Valves sticking.
Driving hard - Needed valve adjustment too much lash rods popped out.
or maybe just too much rpm I think its time for some moly rods.

Wheres the best place to source solid moly rods from?
And also how much lash should I set with the engle KV-1

Besides the pushrods being bent I don't think I've done any other damage, the lifters look like new and so does the cam shaft lobes. hopefully I haven't bent any valves.

We got ours from Smith brothers and I think we went up a size in diameter as well.

Whatever is in the tank that caused this needs to be gone. Did you try moving the valves that were stuck?

I haven't tried moving the valves yet Ill get a valve spring compressor tomorrow to check.

Is turn around long with smith brothers? Do i need to give a sample of a stock push rod or they need measurements?

I don't know the lift of that cam, but if it is high enough, the valve retainer might be hitting the valve guide. Most slants do not need heavier then stock pushrods.
PS: What valve springs are you using?

Engle KV1 has a lift of 0.546" in and 0.546" ex. 270/270 duration.
Long rod, hyper pak with egn bldr valves, chrome moly retainers.

Im using double valve springs which the guys at engle recommended and sold to me. The car has done 3000 miles since the build and has been driving fantastic very responsive motor which likes to get up and boogie.

I guess I'll also have to check for damage on the retainers. do push rods normally go in pairs? Ill pull the rest of the pushrods out tomorrow and see how straight they really are.

No singles on P/R. Or thats been the way I have had them come. (Unless of course you ORDER the whole set.) M2C.

What kind of valve stem seals do you have and are they still intact? Have the spring retainers hit the seals? With that much lift the top of the valve guide most always needs to be shortened to clear the retainer. I found this out when I used a .490" lift Mopar Performance cam, but I discovered the problem while the engine was still on the assembly stand.

Personally I would think dirty fuel would gum up the carb well before it stuck valves.

I have to climb on the bandwagon for retainers hitting the tops of the guides, or just too much lash.

Also, might want to look at piston to valve clearance.

What are you using for rockers? What does your geometry look like? You might need longer or shorter pushrods anyway.

I had an experience with bad fuel causing detonation and thereby causing valves to stick. It might be possible the ingredients added back to the fuel reduced the octane to the point it caused detonation. I would tend to lean in that direction.

I have had valves stick closed due to varnish after sitting for a time, I have never heard of it happening while driving. Put on another pushrod and see if the valve is stuck closed or not. Otherwise maybe mechanical interference like some have said. It is curious that both pushrods on the same cylinder bent and no others.

X3 on the oiling. Verify that your rocker arm shaft is oriented correctly and that the passage in the back of the head is unobstructed.
