I installed a MSD II Blaster coil this afternoon and my points got hot and the block that rubs the cam in the distributor melted. Do you need to install the ballast resistor supplied with the coil and use the old ballast resistor too? Seems like in the wiring diagram provided the wire that goes to the coil positive goes to the new ballast resistor, does that mean the wire coming from the original ballast resistor goes to the new resistor then out the other side of the new resistor to the MSD coil? Did I have too much voltage going to the distributor and the points got hot and melted the rubbing block? Or will the new resistor supply the correct voltage to the coil to keep it from burning up the points again?

Keep your old resistor in the glove box and use the one that comes with the coil. The MSD resistor works well. I ran that set up for several years.

Or take the coil back and get a 3 ohm Pertronix coil and ditch the ballast resistor all together. That is the combo what I have been running the past 3 years along with many others on the website.....see emitsvil posts.
