Post subject:  Cluster volatage limiter

I've found lots of talk about the instrument cluster voltage limiter, but no mention of if or where replacements are available. Car in question is a '76 Dart (I wouldn't mind converting over to the '72-'75 cluster if that would make a difference in the availability of the limiter). I have good fuel and temp gages to install, and want to replace the limiter while I'm at it so I start off on the right foot. Thanks in advance for any direction.

Do a search. Dan linked to an aftermarket supplier of new transistorized voltage regulators and there is also and article on Allpar about how to use Radio Shack parts to build your own transistorized voltage limiter.

Sorry, I don't have the links handy.

I tried earlier today and came up empty, but I'll keep trying different keywords. Thanks for the tip Reed! Neil mentioned knowing somewhere once, but I haven't seen him on here in a bit.

try here for homemade voltage limiter or here for one already assembled.

RTE makes a nice one, so I hear.

I used the 7805 voltage limiter conversion , which works OK.

Post subject:  Limiter the same

Limiter should be the same 1967-1976, the only difference in 1976 is you have more pins and extra traces for the shunt ammeter (up to 1975 the ammeter is not on the circuit board and has two threaded terminals for direct power from the power circuit.

Wow, thanks for the links, guys! That RTE piece sure looks nice, but I'm also a cheapskate, so I might try the Allpar trick. I just noticed the credits at the top of that article, Ehrenberg sure thinks highly of himself...

Okay, thanks D.I. I knew the ammeter was different, but wasn't sure what else changed. Call me crazy, but I prefer the direct ammeter in the <'75s.

because my fuel gauge, temp gauge, and oil light were all not working, and the speedo had a little bit of bounce, i decided to bite the bullet and pull the cluster. the good news is, much of my stuff is in pretty good shape. the bad news is, virtually every dash light bulb has broken ears on the base.

where can you get new ones?

google search for: "mopar dash light socket". More choices than you can shake a stick at.
