I have a slant six of course, but i also have clifford headers 500 cmf edelbrock carb, offenhouser intake. the car has MSD ingnition and about 40k miles on the motor and all across the bored with 150lbs comp, engine runs excellent without any use of oil. Now my question is I was told by clifford products. I have to mill the head to make the 500cmf carb to work right. if so how much would i need to take off the head and would i have any other problems.

Thank you for your time

No, you don't. Don't listen to anything Clifford products has to say. They have a deservedly terrible reputation.

What Reed said......no, no, no.

However, do you know what your compression ratio might be?
1. Has the head already been milled and measured? If so, how many CC's are they?
2. Has the block been decked? If so, how far are the slugs down in the bore?

Ok thanks, ya a reputable guy who lives here in portland told me that he could have it all dialed in for me and run great and he didnt say anything about milling the head either.

1 the compression ration is 8.4 to 1
2. As far as I know no neither its just a stock block that has been rebuilt

Opps srry i just looked back at the old recipt. an I was wrong the guy who rebuilt the motor before i got the car, it has been decked im not sure how far down tho, it was also bored 60 over, the head was only surfaced and the head was rebuilt with new valves, springs, etc... , so now im not 100% sure of the comp ratio now.

Which reputable guy? There are only a few of us that know what the slant likes and dislikes (and have hands on!) in this part of Oregon and putting a clifford on a stock motor is very iffy at best (usually because of the plenum volume, it will sag in the mid-range bad). It would work better with a slightly better cam and 9:1 compression (engine has better efficiency).

Hopefully this wasn't advice given at one of Jack's meetings...

If it already runs excellent what are you hoping to accomplish?
