A quick question... Doing the cap and rotor on the Volare today. Just to be clear..do I put a dab of dielectric grease on the internal cap contacts? Or will that screw up conductivity? Thanks all. |

I put grease on the contacts because if it is vented it will let moisture in to corrode the contacts. If it is non-vented then the Ozone that is created under the cap will corrode the contacts, so that's just my 2cents. |

The grease gets messed up as the rotor passes the terminals at 3000 rpm...and it's worse if you used the MO-3000 rotor with the extended tip. Cap and rotor are a consumable, so they get replaced regardless of sitting or daily driving.  -D.Idiot |

With the center post carbon dust and dirt that inevitably build up inside the distributor, the grease will become a grimy film, coating the underside of the cap and rotor, contributing to carbon arcs and cross firing. Dielectric grease is meant to keep oxygen away from electrical connections. It is not meant to be subjected to an arc distribution system. Put the grease on the plug wire connections in the posts, sure. Just not inside the cap. 2¢ CJ |

Ok I see, well what I did was a thin coat, not a dab, but I refresh it every so often. Seemed to reduce misfiring I had after putting grease on the contacts. |
