What is the purpose of the condenser on the positive side of the coil? It s on a 64 225 slant........

It is a capacitor. Reduces noise in the radio from the expanding and collapsing of the coil field. Mostly effects AM reception.

Normally that condenser or capacitor… same thing, would be located on the + side of the points under the distributor cap. Like Reed said it eliminates ignition noise from AM radio, there is also one of these devices taped into the dash voltage regulator that powers temperature and fuel gages with 5 volts .

I may be wrong but, I think the condenser soaks up a little voltage when the points open keeps the pionts from arcing as badly.

Yup, smaller arc, equals less noise on the old Amplitude Modulus band. The radio picks up that arcing as a signal.
