my dad has a big block cam and we dont know what it is the paint mark on the back is dark blue we know that much we dont know what the lift is could someone help please

Take a caliper and measure the cam lobe from the base to the tallest point on the lobe and multiply by 1.5...

That will give a bit more of a clue as to which cam it might be...if it has no stamp on the nose (ultradyne, comp and a few other places give grind information there...), otherwise you need to mock it into a block with a crank and degree wheel to map it...
