Hey guys, Ive just recently got my old 74 duster running again. I changed the head gasket and after putting it back together my amp gauge starting acting weird. When i start her up it usually reads about one line before -40. When i accelerate, the gauge goes all the way down. I do remember the condenser being too close to the ignition coil and it sparked a couple times. I moved the condenser a bit farther away and that fixed it. Thats about the only electrical problem i had. Today i was driving back from work and started seeing smoke behind my dash. Looked at connection to amp gauge and it was a but burned up. Now after doing a bit of research i've decided to the amp gauge bypass. My question is. Would this solve my problem or is there something i should look into before doing the bypass. Oh and i forgot to mention that i put in a new voltage regulator thinking that could have been the problem. |

Do SL6Dan's wiring mod with the two ten gauge wires and breakers/fuses from the alternator to the battery to take the load off the stock wiring and amp gauge. He describes the mod very well. I did this a while back and have been very happy with the results. You can see a few shots in the red link below. |
