we have this good running slant six pulled from a 1969 dodge dart on ebay for $250, had a question of build date. I was wondering if this number would tell that build date. thanks. USAJon and Mary

I read it PT 225 R 2709

PT=Trenton Plant
225=225 slant six
R=Depends on position on the pad, typically "Regular Fuel", can
also be .001 undersized rod bearings if stamped elsewhere
2709= 10000 day julian calendar coding Friday, December 27th, 1968...so yes it's a 1969 model year engine.

XXXX= There should be one more 4 digit number after that with the build sequence (sequence it was built at the plant).

I used to think so until my stepfather showed me the clause in the seller agreement that says that e-bay is required to send your account information to the IRS and gains if you sell over a certain amount (only a couple hundred $$$ min). So both of us stopped along with quite a few other sellers as I didn't need an audit and having my tax return amended.

Just watch your 8.75"...

DI I asked my dad who also sells stuff on ebay. Are you sure it is $200 or so seems low. From what I understand it is 200 or more sales that total $20,000 or more.

It's ebay's subsidiary Paypal's limit in which they have to kick out a 1099-K for your taxes per the 200 transactions or $20000 . IRS data mining is tracking the actual auction and results to determine if the transactions are business/repeatable, hobby/incidental/non-profitable, and taxable...they have set their sites lower in the last year since business audits haven't been as 'fruitful'...

And heaven knows the infernal revenue folks need more "fruitful" audits....
