I have a 73 225 slant I am wondering if a Holley 1 barrel part number 8994 for a 75 - 77 will work on my motor?

It will fit and work, yes. You will want to use a '74-up choke thermostat assembly (or better yet, go get a brand new electric choke kit, specify for a 1975 model.

Hi guys,
I just joined the forum hoping to find some help getting this
D-100 running - power problems, oscilatting between over
revving & nothing / bucking under load/on hills - replaced and
primed fuel pump, pulled fuel inlet assy & it seemed really
gummed up - now after putting that back in seems bowl
still isn't filling (seems to run at least, even well, when I fill
the bowl through the vent tube, until it runs dry again)
Has a tag on top of carb says: J Turner man'd by Holley
3069, then the above numbers below what looks like
(SW?) 5147 B
i.e. then
8994 AAA
1629

Figured I'd try to locate a rebuild kit floats and whatever else
you suggest before opening it up to see if I can spot anything.

More importantly, figured I'd ask what Obiwan Canada'Obi of the
great White North thinks...

Walker Carburetor Repair Kit  #15560D / or a Kit from Daytonaparts.com
Walker Brass Float: #100-48

There's also a brand new non reman. carb on on epay right now:

Will think about the timing as to whether to mess with
the one on there - novice at best here but at least I
know it!!! If I do decide to open it up, having a new
spare on the way should give me a lot more confidence!!!

I guess the original carb would be ethanol sensitive, i.e.
not ethanol resistant... but would the rubber be dried
out by now depending on when it was made?

I remember going through the thread (sticky) on member's
experience with remans vs. DIY rebuilds, but don't recall
if anyone said anything about non-remans...

Search for "NOS carburetor".

Yep, since it probably sat on a shelf for many years you might want to change some rubber and gaskets and probably set the float to specs (factory settings was a little high on mine). If your truck is manual, you'll probably want to change the accelerator pump link position and adjust it.

Also did you check for vacuum leaks, timing issues, etc.? Carburetor might not be the only source of your problems…

Yeah, it's a manual... Giant vacuum leak was old base
gasket and loose nuts... Others minor except annoying
vent to the evap canister (I think) - not sure how to fix
it in there ... Ran pretty well for last long while but yeah
guess timing could be off... Been a while since I've
Thought about timing!

Thing is the one I took off seemed to have an electronic choke mounted to it - though the lead to it was disconnected, if that's what it is - it has a label which says:

"DO NOT USE Solenoid or screw to set idle speed."

Then there are the two vacuum lines which seem to not have a home - not
sure if they did before - I really want to just start it but may wait til I have
a better sense what's going on.

Turns out it was a Holley warranty claim and from a knowledgeable parts guy local here it's never been installed. Not sure of the year although the
warranty tag lists a number as No. R 709377.

Maybe I'll look on the forum for a primer on carbs and the slant six
to get a better feel for what's going on.

Correction: "SEEMED" to have an electronic choke - (like I would know!)
translates to Idle Stop Solenoid or some such thing... just going
of a 1945 diagram...
