Two questions;

What is the designation of a three speed out of a 64 Plymouth with a slant?

Will the slant (with bell housing) accept a New Process 4-speed out of a 46 grain truck (the old 230 flathead engine)

Probably an A-745 no-syncho first gear.

You will have to confirm the casing bolt pattern on the 4 speed, and would have to confirm the input shaft size and spline (I know the A-833 straight 4 speed came in 1"x23 and 1"x18...A-833OD came in 1"x23 for mopar and 1"x10 for Chevy...NP435 mopar came in 1"x3 late model, and 1"x10*I think* for the 60's trucks).

I'm not sure that the 1946 tranny would like more power from the later engine...

Sounds like a good research project just for you...

A 903 if the top cover is flat in the area above the input shaft gear.

Theres a 6 bolt cover on top of the three speed from where the tranny bolts to bell back to where tail narrows, I read the 903 is tough and suppose it may be a good choice for a t-bucket (or very light car) if a manual where desired.

Is it flat or has a hump?

A-903 would be a good find, they did put some behind 383's in the 60's...

Flat, came out of a 4 door with 70,000 miles.

Did the 60's trucks come with a 10" clutch and slant engine?

Not many if any, mostly they came with the 11" clutch, NP435 and low mount starter...

Yup, flat, stamped, 6 bolt, kind of a fat looking tailshaft housing, good stuff for a light car?

Double check the bolt pattern on the casing.

I knew a guy in the 70's that had a slant D600 flat bed with a heavy duty 4 speed with a 2 speed axle.

I have a '47 WC 1/2 ton Dodge truck with a 230 flathead. Mine originally had the 218. The original transmission won't directly bolt to the slant six. Does the transmission have a PTO? I think yours must be the 1 ton, as the WF32 (1-1/2 ton) had the longer 25-inch 236 DeSoto motor. Does it have the wide front fender openings? The 1 ton and up have floating rear axles.

Mopar flatheads are good motors. If you can make the 225 fit it would have more top end. Whatever motor, you'd likely need to change the rear gears to go very fast.

The 230 is a more compact motor than the slant six. I think the 230 is about 3 inches shorter than a 225.

Mine has the pto output.
I have a 52 M-37 that has a bad crank and replacment engine came with so I have the spare trans. too.

The transmissions dont look the same but I read the updated (52) looked a little different and has the 3 & 4 syncroed.

You can probably adapt the 225 to the original transmission. The NP 435 for a slant six can have a PTO too.

Sounds like I d need the clutch, bell and flywheel from a donor truck.

Ill have to see if the pedals are situated right as they mount on the bell

I guess I could ask Vintage Power Wagons down in Iowa if they'll work in the M-37 truck.

Thanks,
