I'm gathering all the parts for my HEI conversion on my 63 Dart 225 rebuild. Aren't there two different kind of MoPar OEM distributors, one that will work in my block, and one that won't? Can I choose just any Chrysler electronic distributor, or do I need to look for a specific model for my year of vehicle/block? |

Any 72 to mid-80s non-lean burn electronic ignition distributor for a slant six will work. You will want to try and match the application to your vehicle to get the timing advance curve correct, though. |

V-8's got the EI in 1972 Slants followed in 1973...so don't ask for a 1972 /6 distributor you'll get a points model...Lean burn/ESC distributors are a 1980-1987 item but are common candidates in anything in a junkyard since most guys didn't know they don't have advance weights...If going NOS/OEM, I triage cores by the following for light cars like yours (or for any car for that matter: 1st choice: 1977-1980 super six PN:3874876 2nd choices: 1976-1977 PN: 3874714 3rd choice: 1976 PN:3874598 Last choices: Truck or Van distributors, 1973-1974 Distributor: 3755042,3755037/38, 1975: 387082 Cardone reman PN 36-3690 will get you a russian roulette distributor with a governor and springs from any year at random, no lube in the assembly, and you get a generic 10x vacc. adv. pod...you get no choice of springs or governor no matter what "year/car" you give the counter guy... -D.Idiot |

Thanks, that helps. I asked because I thought certain e-distributors actually would not physically align against the cam correctly: something about the correct e-distributor for a short block vs. long block, though when I think about it, that doesn't make any sense. Wonder what that was about.... |

I've never had that problem, although there are different types of clamps or brackets that can limit how much advance you can dial into it because of the slots... -D.Idiot |

Interesting, but it only takes the load off the points not eliminates them. BC |
