Post subject:  1963 Dart New Radiator

I was having a rough time finding a new radiator for my 63 Dart. Champion had a 64 radiator for a V8. Meaning the water pump inlet was on the driver side, instead of passenger side. So I went ahead and ordered one through Amazon. Finally I hear back from an email I sent Champion, and they told me that for an extra $60, they would place the inlet on the passenger side. But I had already ordered the other one. No biggie. I got a 30" flexible rubber hose. It reached quite a way, but I noticed no way would it do the 90 degree turn. Then it hit me - the upper radiator hose is an elbow. So then I had to find a barrel connector to connect the two radiator hoses together. I found it at JEGS. And all is good. I drove the car today - no leaks.

Having said that, if you have a 63 Dodge Dart, and need a new radiator, and don't mind an aluminum one, Champion has it. But they sell it as the 64 Dodge Dart. You will have to call them to get the inlet moved. Or do as I did, get the longer flex hose, connector, and extra upper hose.

There is my hose hookup. And the main reason for writing this up is because Champion doesn't advertise the option for the slant six for either the 63 or 64 model.

Post subject:  nice post!

Thanks for this post. Could have used it earlier, but it at least confirms my thought that paying the extra $60 is money well spent.

It ain't easy for pre 65 a body owners. Ever...

Parts list:

Champion radiator (2 row aluminum) EC2374. The upper radiator hose is towards the driver side, not centered like stock.
NAPA upper hose (1.5 inch inlet and outlet) NBH 8484.
Murray thermostat housing (stamped steel, aims directly at driver's side fender) 84904 at O'Reilly auto parts stores.
IMPORTANT! NAPA lower radiator hose (1.75 inch at radiator, 1.5 inch at water pump) NBH 8333.

Of course I had to drill a few holes in the radiator flange and the radiator support, but we are not dealing with stock at this point.

I also eliminated the aluminum fan spacer and used shorter bolts with a few washers to place the fan closer to the water pump for clearance. It might be 3/8 inch closer to the pulley.

I am very happy with this setup. I have no overheating issues ever, even while pulling a 2500# boat/trailer. No fan shroud as I don't think I need one.

Car is a 1963 Dart GT convertible, 1920 Holley 225 cid A833 OD transmission with 8 1/4 axle 3.55 gears.

Post subject:  Cool, but...

Hey,

Just wanted to note that I ordered the CC64DT 3 row rad. The $60 addon is to switch the bottom outlet (1.5inch) from the driver to the passenger.

From there, should be a straight fit. I'll post an update once I have it installed.

Awesome !!! It was worth the $60 compared to my setup. Be careful on the install. The flanges are real sharp, so when dropping it in place, you can easily get cut. You might want to feel them, and file them down once you get the radiator.
