Is it possible to put a 727 behind the \ six? I have a buddy with a 727 that he took off of his 318, is the bell housing the same? If not, can it be changed to fit? |

A 318 727 will not bolt to a slant six. however, there were slant six 727s made. They are somewhat harder to find since they are really overkill in any application other than a taxi or a tow truck. The slant six 727 was put in heavy duty vehicles, mostly fleet vehicles, such as cop cars, taxis, trucks, or other severe service applications. It is possible to install a small block transmission behind a slant six using the factory A-100 adapter plate, but those are even harder to find than a slant six 727. |

There are a number of A-727's that are found in Trucks and Vans that will directly fit your engine. That being said the A-904 s much lighter and quicker shifting than the 727 and if given a good upgrade rebuild will handle even the stoutest 360's. I forget, is your car a cable or linkage shift (this can be fun in upgrading the tranny as well).The slant six bellhousing is unique to that engine and shares with nothing else. In the 60's mopar did not have a 727 for the slant six so they made a heavy cast iron 1" thick adapter plate that will allow a 273/318/340/360 A-727 to be bolted to the slant six...problem being here they only made them for a number of years in the mid/late 60's with few left out there (typically if you can find one they are in the $100 at the junkyard "you pull" to $200+ "got lucky i found one on e-bay"). AREngineering had made a run of aluminum adapter plates for this but they did not sell too well (the $500 price tag gave most guys sticker shock, but it's not cheap to make these and provide the needed hardware). The pattern for this plate is now in the hands of another member who solely owns it, there are a few others trying to reverse engineer one for their needs- the critical part there is the time it takes to check the plate against the main shaft of the transmission for runout and proper centering then installing the correct offset dowels in the bellhousing (so no easy plug and play). Another critical thing to note, the 318 tranny has the starter mount in the lower position which will screw any chance you have to get a set of header pipes through the opening, you will have to get a set of shorties and join them and run the down pipe in a custom fashion. If you do a search, there was a group buy for an adaptor to run a GM 200R4 which would be a good choice and give you an overdrive gear so you could run a set of 3.91/4.10 rear gears and drive it home from the track on the same tank of gas. One last thing to consider is your engine and the torque convertor snout, if you are using a late engine, then no problem, but if you have an early engine the 1968+ torque convertor snout will not fit into the pre-67 crank pocket...and if that wasn't bad, if your have a 1960's 904, the guts are not 100% compatible with a 70's/80's A-904 so you will have lots of research to do if deciding to try and frankenstein a tranny, and trying to figure out what parts need to be used where. -D.Idiot |

From the block numbers and head number I previously posted CEEJ believes it to be like a 76 block and like 79 heads.... 0225R 5428 E Also it is a push button tranny in which I messed up the parking lever cable when removing the engine. I would really like to go to a floor mount. |

Yes, just make sure the shift kit is compatable with the PB trans. I have a full manual shift valve body in my PB trans.
