I am finishing up the disc brake swap on my brother's 74 Duster. I am in the process of swapping out the original 1974 manual all drum brake master cylinder for a new disc brake master cylinder, but I am having a problem. The drum MC has the pushrod firmly seated in the cup on the back of the piston. The disc brake master cylinder has the cup but no pushrod. I can't see a way to get the drum brake pushrod out of the master cylinder piston to put into the disc brake master cylinder piston cup. I have even looked at the FSM and it doesn't mention how to get the pushrod out of the drum MC. What am I missing? Is it even possible to remove the drum master cylinder pushrod? Thanks. |

The FSM says the piston bores are the same for drum brake and disc brake master cylinders and the master cylinder tag for both is "yellow." Does this mean that manual disc brake and manual drum brake A bodies got the same master cylinder in 74? The FSM does say that the drum brake MC has residual valves (?) in the primary and secondary circuits. Can I use the old drum brake master cylinder with the disc brake setup? Argh. |

Never mind, I got it figured out. I just ad to use a little persuasion to get the pushrod out of the drum MC. |

Reed, Just in case you didn't know, Master Power Brakes sells an adjustable pushrod for Mopars, I have one on my Volare. It sounds like you already have it worked out though. Later! Wes |

Thanks Wes. I figured it out. I put the pushrod in my bench mounted vise and then used two wrecking bars applied simultaneously to pry the rod out of the back of the MC piston. That did the trick! The brakes are now fully bled and functional. |
