Post subject: | Valve keepers for TI retainers |
I came across some titanium spring retainers and see they require 10 deg. keeper angles (I think most stock keepers are 14 deg.) and am having a hard time finding keepers that have locks for the slant 6 valves and a 10 Deg. Angle. Cut the valve notchs for a differant keeper? I dont think the strenght would be left on the stem. I have some aluminum retainers for my build but want to see if a solution to using a Ford titanium retainer exists? |

If I were going to all that trouble I would probably design around 5/16 valve stems and have new guides put it. |

So there are no 10 Deg. keepers for the slant 6 valves? |

I would think there to be a wax caster out there and someone that could make up a set of keepers for 10 Deg. retainers for not alot of trouble and then a person could use a set of aftermarket retainers for a good price. |

Mopar's bean counters were pretty good about using similar parts across other platforms I think you'd be able to find the correct locks at Comp Cam or someone with mopar valves and that type of retainer for a mopar small or big block. The only draw back is you will be buying a set of 8 each instead of a set of 6...(got spares just in case, right?) -D.Idiot |

Most people that are going to be using 10° locks aren't going to be using stock type valves. People have likely already upgraded to single groove valve stems and better quality valves. If you need 10° retainers and locks for your application, you need a better valve as well.

Seeing that I already upgraded to the oversize, undercut valves available, I'd like to address (possibly) the second most important issue after rod failure and that would be cam wear, but now will have to see if I can use some two part urethane to cast a keeper and seek investment casting services. Anybody interested in a 10 Deg. keeper for the nice oversize valves or the stockers? |

Looks like you didn't get the jist of my post... Mopar stock valves use the same keepers across the board, /6, LA, B/RB... Comp Cam and Manley has 10 degree keepers for standard mopar valves with 3/8" valve stems they can be purchased per summit in sets of 16 or 4 and they have them in 1, 2 and 4 groove versions... Looking like about $30 +/- for a set of 16 if going that route. Get a grooving tool for the lifter bore to provide more oiling to the cam lobe and install a cam button to keep the cam from walking and as long as you aren't using a heavy load valve spring cam wear will be the least of your worries. -D.Idiot |

Comp Cams 627-16. It's a V8 set for 2 and 4 groove Chrysler valves and 10° retainers. ![]() |

Thank you, it seems as though the more intersting a post gets the more interesting it gets although it seems it could seem that way to someone who has HAD less interest, but I'm (I hope) not in that situation because I do not assume my interest, just the lack of any previous - interest. Thanks again! Edit: that leaves us with comtemplating experience, but that should carry its own repetition. |
