Got the crank torqued down with lots of assembly lube, the rear main seal's in place, all is well.

Then, I realized I didn't install the crank sprocket yet. Hmm.

What's the best way to install one of these? Searched through the site, but didn't find anything specific. I very gently tapped the key into the snout keyway, but it's looks almost like it's supposed to 'rock' into place and tighten.

Since the crank is in the engine and I want to be ginger with my crank and new mains, how should I handle this?

ALSO, the new Cloyes sprocket has a beveled side, and a flat. Which side goes toward the motor? The stock sprocket is flat on both sides.

I always use the vibration damper and a crank snout bolt to tighten the crank gear into place.

Easiest way to go about it is to heat the crank gear up with a plumbers torch, or on a propane BBQ, or stick in the oven at 450....( torch is better it only takes a couple of minutes...)

Once it's been heated that long use a heavy glove and slide it right on the crank snout until seated and you are done, no tapping needed.

Thanks, on it. I've got a torch. How deep is that key supposed to sit in the groove? All the way down? If that's the case, I will need to tap on it more, OR if I approach it with a hot sprocket, will rocking it into place seat the key correctly?

And again, the new sprocket has a beveled side with a thinner flat edge, and one side with a large flat edge. The stock socket had a large flat edge on each side. Does it matter which side faces towards the motor?

Which side has the timing dot, that will be the outside Toward the radiator.
