The "AM radio option" adds a capacitor from the - of coil to ground, and also in back of the dashboard to filter out noise on the power lines. Does anyone know if this came with any other option? Does anyone have a car that originally came with no radio option and still have these caps?

I am trying to do a little investigating. I put a scope on my coil - terminal and it seemed a bit too spiky... I think this is what may be mis-triggering the EFI computer, and no I don't have the caps installed because they broke a long time ago and I never bothered replacing. Tomorrow I am going to try scrounging some up and see if it will make any difference.

Does anyone know if these caps are also the same ones as in the points distributors?

Have a 66 Dart 270 which was radio delete and has cap attached to coil Bracket with both leads attached to either side of the coil, looks like a condensor and appears orginal to the car as opposed to the 63GT which was equiped with a music-master am unit and no caps.I Put a aftermarket filter in the12v feed and the antenna line when I rewired the dash. any 50ohm cap would be sufficient as I believe this is the orginal value. Unknown if condensor could be used for this application, you would have to determine its value first and compare to one you are replacing.

Correction is in order. Caps are measured in microfarads, not ohms. Symbol is MF. and 50mf is correct value. On my application one lead wired to positive side of coil and other lead wired to mounting bolt. No cap found in dash.

I have two '68 Valiants. One is a V-200 without a radio. It is a 39,000 mile car and very original, still had the date coded spark plug wires on it when I got it. It did not have a cap. The other car is a Signet with an AM radio. It did have a cap attached to the coil until I eliminated it during an electronic ignition conversion. This is going to be a bracket race car so no cap needed.

If you are going to try to add a cap, say from Radio Shack, be sure to hook the minus (-) side of the cap to ground.

Yeah, I have seen caps shatter .. oh not a pretty site. Stinks pretty bad too. I wasn't using any radioshack caps, I was using mopar originals with my experiment. I have a nos mopar dealer radio addon kit, with speaker, caps and radio.

Anyhow that idea didn't work. I called up howell and got the right filter for the GM computer to get triggerd by my msd 6a tach output. Going to give that a whirl this weekend
