What kind of a build would you prefer to do for a daily driver street performer? Keep in mind I will have to bore the cylinders out at least .20 over due to scoring in the walls. Small bore, slightly oversized valves, 4 Barrel carb, Dutra Dual Duals, and a mild cam is my current thought. |

What you say, but I would focus on getting your dynamic compression ratio up and staying with a two barrel carb for a street motor. |

I already have the 4 barrel intake purchased. These /6 motors are something else but I think they worth learning about and running. I swear I'm learning about motors for the first time working on this thing. I forgot to address the compression ratio. I'm not wanting to go crazy so a 9:1 or a 10:1 is my target area. |

9:1 or 10:1 static or dynamic compression? If you are dead set on a four barrel, run the smallest you can find on a street car.

Edit, thanks DI, I did not intend to say Static in this sendence: Dynamic not Static compression is the number one needs to scrutinize closest, as that is the number that dictates octane requirements. Camshaft profile and its timing, static compression, combustion chamber volume, rpm range, internal dimensions of engine, rear gear & tire diameter are all variables one needs to juggle to arrive at some combination of street friendly drivability. You have to determine how, and what is to be expected from this car and environment it is to be used in; in other words pick somewhere between dead stock grocery getter to full race. Helpful reading here, here, and here. |

Not really, it can give a general idea, but the dynamic compression ratio will give the best yardstick to measure octane requirements as it looks at the actual IVC and calculate when te cylinder is actually going to build pressure. This is why you can build a 10:1 slant six and still run regular if you pick the right cam and timing, vs. the old school thinking where 10:1+ required ethyl back in the day.... -D.Idiot |

fastcorgigarage, For a street car I would go for mass torque build and work those parameters to the "T". The SL6 is a torque motor, and limited on Hp by the head design. Maximize torque..... |
