I received this 1966 (yes 1966!) tech bulletin in my email box from Dan this morning. It amazes me that the exhaust manifold cracking problem was recognized so early and that I have yet to see a single manifold with this modification done to it! Also, note the TSB calls for 15 foot pounds torque instead of the ten you red about everywhere else (including cast into the intake manifolds!). Interesting stuff.

I have seen some manifolds here in Australia that had the slots... They were on some of the the 1968 and later era engines from memory and looked like a factory job. The only prob was it seemed to weaken the area and once slotted those sections were prone to cracking right off. |
