Post subject:  Electric or mechanical fuel pump on new rebuild?
Hi guys topic says it all. I am working on my rebuild slowly as I learn (A heck of a lot to learn I must say! But most of the time lots if fun!) I believe my mechanical fuel is original and don't want to have the diaphragm rupture and contaminate the oil. So I believe a new fuel pump is in order but don't know whether or not to go electric or stay mechanical.
The engine is bored .060 over has a two barrel carb and head milled .060 at this time block is next.
What is common wisdom on the conversion?

All my builds use the stock pump, I can't see the real need for a street vehicle needing an electric pump outside of an EFI application.

Unless you are making a strip only car, I highly recommend you put a new mechanical pump on.

I run an electric on the race car, but it makes a hell of a racket, and is completely unnecessary for even spirited competition.

My electric was put on due to the regrind cam having a bad fuel pump lobe. A stock pump would deliver enough fuel for at least another 100 HP on this build, and I'm no slouch.

Electric fuel pumps add another couple failure modes. Don't go there unless you need a bucket of fuel, or high pressure for an FI build.

Thanks for the feedback and pointing out pros and cons. I had the cam reground so the lobe should be correct so for peace of mind a new mechanical is on the list.
