Post subject:  New 8.25 Rear Good Buy? Questions

Just picked up an abody 8.25 rear to replace my 7.25 in my 72 Duster with 225 and 904 auto, all stock. There are two tags on rear: 3.21 (gear size) and 2235. Anyone know what the 2235 is for? Also how would the 3.21 do with a stock slant? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

This is an excellent upgrade and bolt in if you got it for about $250 or less.

2235 is the assembly line tag, and 3.21 would be the ratio (hopefully it's also original).

The slant will like it better than the 2.76's, your ride will feel "peppy" and be easy to get off the line, the down side is the rpm noise, your engine in 3rd on the highway will be at a slightly higher rpm so if you are used to the low rpm noise at 65 mph, you will have to get used to the change in pitch at 65 mph with the new gearing.

Hopefully you have a set of disc brakes to go with it, as the SBP fronts will be a drag for carrying spares for a while. Hopefully you have 10" drums front minimum as 9" fronts and 10" rears are not fun trying to stop.

The other beauty of it, you can score a sure grip from a dodge truck up to 1997 in a junkyard for a fraction of the cost to buying one new.

Thats great news!! I think I got a pretty good deal- rear and matching drive-shaft for under 200... I plan on swapping the front to factory bbp disk brakes, gonna search the scrap yard for parts! Thanks for the reply!!

That is a good deal. And if it was out of a Duster or Dart Sport, it's good you got the matching driveshaft with it.

You'll be spinning about 3000rpm at 70 with those gears depending on tire size. If you can go back and get the speedo gear out of the tranny.

It will be closer to 2971 at 65 mph for 195/75R14's

3000 at 65mph if 205/70R14


This includes slippage fudge factor for the TC.

195 70 14's I am at 3K or is it 215 70 14's? I can't remember

Yeah 195/70R14's are a little shorter so that would do it.

I also factored in the decrystallization of the Dilthium Matrix and degradation of the Warp Field while rimming the sun's gravity well. Taking into account that it's only a slant six with an A904 and not Transwarp drive.

Ha Ha Thanks guys! The rear was from Dart Sport so driveshaft should be bolt in, correct? I cant get the spedo gear from trans-- did not even think of it, can you buy them new?

That's a 100% swap unless the car had a 727 then you may need to swap the yoke off your current driveline.

If you know your tire size I may have a used one I'd let you have as a money saver for a couple bux and postage. :wink:
