Hey fellas just gotta pick your brains, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything!

Recently put the /6 back into my 1967 Australian Valiant but can't seem to get the damn thing started!

I took the engine to replace a few gaskets and did remove the head. However I didn't remove the dizzy or touch the timing. I did rotate the engine while checking valve clearances, but didn't return the pistons to where they were originally. I thought because I hadn't touched the dizzy/timing it wouldn't matter.

Anyway when I turn the key the engine turns over but won't fire up! It has blown smoke out of the carby and backfired but thats all.

Now I've gone over all the plugs and they seem to be in the right order.

It seems like a timing issue but I'm not sure how that would have been affected!

Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction

Cheers!

P.s I'm by no means an engine guru! Just learning as I go!

G'Day! First thing I would inspect would be the valve lash. Did you set them a bit loose when you reinstalled the head? I would. That way you know that they are at least seating so the motor will run until you can adjust the valves properly.
