What could one expect to pay for a good old fashioned tune up on a 225 auto car electronic ignition single barrel carb. We are just talking about labor not parts. Changing common ignition parts and adjusting valve lash and timming. |

I'd expect a shop around here to include a bit of 'padding' since they surely wouldn't be looking it up in a time guide and guess that this would land somewhere between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hrs labor depending on how busy and/or crabby they where that day with a good possibility of going a bit higher if they despise the thought of working on older 'junk'. Labor here runs a wide range with the idiots on the lower end that don't know how to change a calender still hovering around $65/hr and the dreamers pushing a tad north of $100/hr. As slow and stupid as I am, I'd expect to burn closer to two hours on it; Replace plugs/wires, cap/rotor, look up specs and check/adjust timing and carb settings, adjust valves, thoroughly clean the valve cover and drool tubes (if either gasket(s) needed replacement), clean anything else I touched, test drive. This would automatically include the 'simple courtesy' of checking and topping off (underhood) fluids as needed, light cleaning of battery cable ends and anything else that's screaming for some simple attention. I'd add time & material if drool tubes or VC leaked all over the place and if L.O.F. was due. |

Ed I will be doing the work but on a budy's car. He wanted some one who cares about the slant six and tuning it up to optimize performance. He wants some one to do it right and wants to pay fairly and I don't want gouge him for ridiculous shop rate. He also told me to do it up as if I was doing my own car so HEI may be on the list at time of the tune up. |

Man... I work too cheap, going by that website.  Joking aside, I charge between $100 & 150.00 for a SL6 tune-up. (Labor only - Valve adjustment included) DD |

I suggest an Electronic ignition Upgrade to reduce maintenance costs, no more points, rubbing block, condenser, etc. |

If you were in los angeles i'd tell you to come by. our shop still uses the big old early 60s scope thats on an overheard track. |
