I've always heard wrapping will destroy exhaust headers pretty quickly. Just hearsay though, no personal experience.

You would be better off ceramic coating them. If using stocks manifold there is VERY little room for a wrap.

I have used both the wrap and ceramic coatings on a few projects over the years.I had a cast exhaust header ceramic coated due to the clearance issues created with the wrapping tape,plus its pretty hard to get a neat job wrapping a cast header.My observations was its was cooler,but it also expanded/contracted a lot more then an uncoated item,no doubt the metal temp was much higher with the ceramic coating keeping the heat from radiating out. I used the stock shim gasket and the movement wasn't an issue,but just take care of gasket choices when using any type of insulation on a cast header. I have also used the ceramic coating and header wrap on tube headers and it works great. I've never really had a set of headers deteriorate with the wrap on them.but I have heard many others mention it is a problem.maybe its due to the tape absorbing moisture and rusting.but with the ceramic coating underneath the wrap mine last just fine.They are good quality pipes fitted on my 318 stroker running propane and saw daily usage for over 5 years and only see weekend use for the last 2 years still look just fine ! hope this helps

I heard heat wrapping an exhaust will cause rust to occur at a quicker rate if water gets between the wrap and the exhaust. Because it will turn to steam when the exhaust gets hot, however won't be able to escape because its trapped in by the heat wrap.

So basically its just trapped in there eating away at your exhaust!

If you have a fairly open engine bay I wouldn't think you'd need to coat or wrap your exhaust? I thought it was mainly for compact engine bays?

In rock crawling 4x4 buggies .. some guys put auxilary fans pointed at headers a friends 454 BBC in a jeep dropped around 20degrees op temp . Just a thaught smitty
