Pertronix Ignitor+Coil Dodge/Plymouth 6cyl w/Single Points Distributor 1960-72 is this set a good option for electronic ignition set up and will it work with my 64 Dart GT 225 slant distributor?

Pertronix will allow you to keep your current distributor and not modify the wiring (and pitch the points components)...The only draw back is, if the pickup goes out then you have to order a new part unless on warranty and they aren't on a local dealers shelf, and you need to makes sure that you get good grounds where needed. Other than that I have recurved a few points distributors with the pertronix kit and it never skipped a beat on the machine.

If wanting over the counter easy to get components then you will be looking at an EI dizzy and the HEI conversion.

Just thinking about going with this one since it seems simple and I can get away from those points.........where would the grounds be needed for this set up?

To follow the instructions and schematics in the kit, typically they have a requirement for a ground at the distributor body that is sometimes forgotten.

With Pertronix installed would 2 1/2 degrees btdc still be the right setting for the distribuor?

on a stock distributor with a stiff curve, I would set for 5 BTDC and see how that works...if all good, move up to 8 BTDC...if pinging occurs back off 1 degree and test again. Check total mechanical timing and try not to exceed 30 at 2000 rpm with vacc. advance disconnected.

Thanks DI again for the advice, I all set it tomorrow to 5° and try that. Also have you ever had an issue with smoke coming up through the defroster vent on the drivers side. And my voltage regulator is hot to the touch and can't keep my hand on it very long.... :(

You might check to see if it's smoke, if it's steam the heater core is about to really tank on you, if it's smoke something is being drawn through the cowl, the heater core might be covered in dust and the heat is making it 'burn'....

Might also have a spare voltage regulator handy, but I know the old buzz boxes were typically very warm to the touch after handling a long charge period...

Good Luck,

Will do those checks to installing the EI kit has turned into an adventure your point about the heater core sounds dead on, if it were just smoke the windshield above the vent wouldn't fog....thank you again.....

Either that or you decorate the interior in white terry cloth and open up a rolling sauna...

If you do it right, it'll be good for another 20 years or more...
