first the windshield wiper motor...
has gone the way of the dodo, entirely, and i need a new one. moto-ray told me he found a rebuild for $300 in florida, but...isn't that part interchangeable with a dart windshield wiper motor as well? if so, which years? first i need to locate one as cheap as i possibly can get it, secondly i need to put it in...first things first.

fuel tank gasket...
it's not the O ring, it's the one on the right hand side. i had the tank replaced a couple years back and at the time it was fine, but apparently at some point when ray owned her it started leaking gas prolifically if it was filled above 3-4 gallons from empty. where is the best place to get this gasket, and how difficult is the job? majhor murrays did the tank replacement and gaskets, which i paid dearly for...shouldn't they fix that shyte gratis, since they didn't do it properly, or is that just crazytalk?

reverse button...RIGHT after i bought her back, i was at fred meyers and went to back out of my parking spot when the button just fell back into the panel and would not go in reverse. i have to flintstone it every time i need to back up. yabba frickin' dabba. fortunately, all the other gears work fine...however, i really need that reverse. dodge ran this STUPID STUPID push button system on this model only...obviously it sucked cause they didn't do it again...but these are my concerns:

a) the neutral button is *really* tetchy and if you break it by even jiggling it or doing anything wrong even a tiny bit, YOU ARE SCREWED. i do have neutral bypassed but still. i don't need to lose neutral, so i am super nervous about ripping apart that panel. advice? am i over-freaking about it?

b) ripping apart the panel: requires an alan wrench, i think i have one from the last time it came apart, but it's to get the wiper knob off so the rest of the panel can come off. i feel almost frozen with worry over screwing this up. advice?

c) (AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION RE: THE REVERSE) the reverse button is in there, i can see it , what i am wondering is, why did it fall off in the first place, does this mean i don't have reverse at all even if i take apart the panel and replace it properly, will that even fix it? i'm concerned about taking all that apart, not being able to fix the button/reverse, and potentially screwing up the neutral button or something else on the panel in the process. anyone ever have to deal with this? advice?

PS: i have not been able to get onto the forum for a couple months cause my old firefox on windows was causing too many probs and i had to use chrome...then windows crashed recently and i am on linux mint now, firefox is fine, so here i am...apologies for not getting back to messages or replies...but it's all fixed now. :)

ray helped me with some little fixes to get her back to her old self, she stalled at lights a lot and all it took was a timing adjustment she is now rock solid again!!! YES! she's running SOOOOO GOOD! except the aforementioned issues, which don't effect how she runs, just, quality of ride (like constant gas fumes, no reverse, and no windshield wipers, yeehaw).

hope everyone is having a great summer! maybe next summer i'll have that tank fixed and can do a run with you all! :)

to clarify: dodge ran this particular push button system on this model only, i am not saying they didn't do push button on other models, they did, it's just this is the only model they did these highly inconvenient 'tweeks' to.

Need year of car and need to know if it's 2 speed, or if it's 3-spd/variable speed motor, it has to match the switch and wiring harness or it doesn't work right...

I've got a bit of experience with the pushbutton control in my 64ragtop. What car do you have? I don't think the reverse button setup is much different from mine. First thing is to take the control unit out of the dash. The reverse button shaft has (or HAD :x) a little hook at the bottom end that hooks into the rod that goes into the mechanism. On mine, I had to take out the other buttons, which all just pull off, in order to gently wiggle that little hook into the hole in the rod.

I have the drawings from my FSM saved somewhere, but can't find 'em right now. Here's hoping this isn't your daily driver.

I found those illustrations from the Factory Service Manual. I would bet that they're similar to your Lancer pushbutton unit. For different models, over the years Chrysler used somewhat different pushbutton setups. Some were differently shaped, some horizontal, some vertical, different shape of buttons, and I saw one with the park lever some little distance (an inch or so) away from the row of buttons. They all work the same, just different details. Removing the control unit isn't that tough, just take it easy, don't force anything and be patient. It would probably be a good idea to disconnect the battery negative cable. When you have the unit loose and out from under the dash, remove the cables by pulling the hairpin clips and lifting the cable end fittings off the posts.

If you think they'll help, I can send the drawings or pics of the unit that I have disassembled as attachments to email. Send me a PM with your email address if you want. I'll help if I can.

There's a '62 Lancer for sale on ebay right now, reserve not met. He posted a video on utube HERE .
The video was posted last December and he was asking $2500. The current bid is just over $500 with one day left.

I found a much better video of a '62 Lancer on utube HERE where I learned that your park lever is quite a distance away from the pushbuttons.
That SHOULD make removal and repair simpler, I think (hope).
Unfortunately it also tells me that my drawings and pictures will not be as much help as I thought

There are several more utube videos under "1962 dodge lancer" that you might find interesting.

Have fun!
