My 1970 Dart tranny is leaking from the shift lever shaft (904 auto). Is it possible to replace the o ring without dropping the trans? Does anyone have the part number. Thanks

I think it's Timken 8609, typically in stock at Autozone for $8...

You can do the job in the car, but you will have to tilt the engine and tranny to get enough room to work on it. A few guy have a homemade specialty tool they work up to help remove and install it in the tight quarters under the floor pans.

Good Luck,

Yah, you're in it and reading it right now!

OK, I'd like to see it too, anyone?
I'd probably drop the rear trans mount/xmember so I could lower the rear, certainly resulting in some unseen damage at firewall, then proceed to poke and pry at the seal with a hooked to of sorts, surely damaging the trans case and/or the shift shaft all the while bathing in stinky fluid, grease and other fun stuff...

Yea, I had tranny out while rebuilding engine. Replaced reverse switch and pan filter and gasket but couldn't figure out how seals were removed. After starting engine and driving car up and down driveway, it began to leak.
