Anyone find a benefit to running a carb spacer? Currently have a Clifford intake with a Carter AVS off a 273. I have a 1" & 2" HVH Super Sucker spacers available to try. I know they work great on V8's just not sure the SL6 will respond the same. I'm thinking it will give it better fuel atomization and maybe giving it a little more plenum volume might help on a combination strictly being used a bracket race car.

The taller versions work pretty good on the clifford intake, but the room under the hood of an A-body is limited due to the hood so you may note be able to get the 2" in there without a drop air cleaner.

I know of one Dodge Truck in Oregon that uses a 4" spacer and it increased the low end torque and overall driveability of the slant in the heavy vehicle.

Yeah there is limited space under the A-Body hood but i do have a drop base air cleaner on it right now and a couple others i can try. Torque is definitely what i'm after to improve.

On one of my early combinations I tried a 1" 4 hole spacer on a Clifford intake with a 390 Holley. It was worth a tenth in the 1/4 mile. :D

that is on the list of expierements I want to try on ruster drag car project. I have to modify the hood or cut some scoop onto there to do this project.

I have the same one Dennis describes.

Gary Bruner in TN. has a pretty tall 2 or 2.5 spacer on his Clifford manifold. he runs high 12s or low 11s in that car.

good luck.

I tried the 1" spacer on ruster this weekend and did not see any clear advantage.

It was running mid 12.20s as it usually does in that weather.

I Might have to try a 2" or more spacer.

And thhat might require some hood modifications.

Were you using a 4 hole spacer or open. The HVH spacers mentioned above are a solid 68 HP gain and a mild SBC.....I know them pretty well there, the next time your in K'ville i'll see if I can arrange a private tour.

It was a 4 hole.

The clifford Carb Adapter I have is a 4 hole so I think I would need to cut or modify the center section out of the clifford adapter to get the open one to work correctly or am I mistaken here?

Here are the HVH quick fuel selections for a 4150 squarebore carb base as I have.

What do you sages suggest; as I was less then impressed with the No name aluminum 1" four hole spacer that I had tried :-(

Thanks,

Greg

I run a 2 inch spacer under my QF carb on my drag car. With a drop base, I can run a 2 inch K/N aircleaner.I also have a fiberglass hood on my 62 Valiant w/ no scoop.....and it fits. I KNOW my car is slower without it.

When the HVH spacers first came out about 9 years ago they were only available in the 2" thick size, and thus the 68 HP claims. A standard 1" thick design spacer might not always provide a noticeable increase in all situations. But I did design and manufacture a set of 1" spacers for a while that were a 2 hole design for the vintage carb 2 BBL market that when used as a 3 x 2 setup, showed a 15 HP gain.

So with a 1" spacer under a BBS I should get 7.5 HP.........

Well maybe not with your garden variety spacer, but with mine I would say that is reasonable to expect. 8)

I suggest that $127 is too much for a carb spacer!! Wow, I am in the wrong business.
Rick
