I'm ready to install my engine, but I want to check valve lash cold, just to make sure they have it ballparked before I start it up and adjust hot. What is the procedure to check/set the lash cold? Thanks everyone, BG |

I know the procedure, but what is the appropriate setting for valve lash cold? I only need it to run for break in, then I can set hot. I just want to make sure they're not too tight or loose during break in. What do people typically do for a rebuild, set the gap at a thousandth or so looser than spec to account for expansion? thanks, BG |

Actually, if you figure it, the lash will get tighter as it heats up. I'd set the lash 2thousandths looser to start. |

Lash on a first start is always done cold first. When it is warm for the first time you can do a torque n lash . After a first move (drive the car) I would lash again.....and check for leaks. That first lash can be any clearance that makes it run well at cam breakin rpm. Looser will tame a wildo cam down a bit. On a street motor I would cold lash to spec.....breakin the cam (we are not getting real hot) and relash. I prefer to do static lash while warm.......you may have another method. |

I'll set a few thousands loose, do the break in, then set lash hot to spec. BG |
