Post subject:  Slant modification recommendations

I know its a bit of a broad subject, but wasnt quite sure what to title it.

I started small, but the project (as they tend to do), has grown. I have an Aussie Chrysler Valiant, with a 225 slant.

I have aquired a head, with hardened valve seats, oversized SS valves, some mild port work and will be putting in some beefier vavle springs.

The car already has an alloy longrunner manifold, and a 4bbl holley carb, extractors and electronic ignition

I have a Cam of the following spec

Advertised

- Inlet opens 35 closes 76
- Exhaust opens 75 closes 35

Duration 282 - 290

@ .050"

- Inlet opens 11 closes 43
- Exhaust opens 52 closes 12

Duration 234 - 243

aaargh, it chopped off half my post!

I dont want to start throwing money at it hand over fist, but I want to keep the slant in it, and get some performance (nothing crazy)

The car has original 70,000 miles (genuine one little old lady owner car), and as I will be taking the motor out to put the cam in and replace gaskets, what else should I be doing?

I would imagine new piston rings, but should I need maybe some higher compression pistons? Anything else that I should be doing whilst I am in there?

That duration @ .050 you are looking at a 10:1 SCR mill, time to pull the engine, take some measurements and get ready to cut some meat off the deck and head to acheive it.

Thanks for that, I just picked up the head now, and when the engine is apart, I will measure the gap at the top of the piston at TDC and then work out how much to deck.. 10:1 should be find do you think?

230@ .050 will like the 10:1...if it's 240@50 it's going to want more...especially if the LSA narrow...
