Post subject:  Oil Filter Attaching Stub Tube

When I was changing the oil and filter on my new (rebuilt) 225, I noticed the Oil Filter Attaching Stub didn't have a Tube like my old 1963 225 had. Is this a problem?

No it's not a problem, but the tube would have been nice to prevent drainback of the oil if it was a concern. You can still change your stub for a tube (pull off your old oil pump or find one at a junkyard. The work around is Wix 1806 that has an anti-drain back mechanism in the filter itself so you can keep you stub and not need the tube.

FYI.

The Summit Racing website says the Fram PH8A has the anti-drain back mechanism, also.

Fortuitously-timed question - I just was wondering if I needed to swap out my taller stand tube from my '63 225 for the stub on the new Melling I installed. I'll be doing that now. Thanks for asking this question.

Fram PH8A

It also produces new clean oil and with every sale of 1,000,000 filters you get the deed to a bridge in Arizona that was for sale...

Use WIX Filters. Don't ever use FRAM.
WIX 51515 or WIX 51806 (if you don't have a stand pipe)

To be nitpicky - wix 51806, 1806 is the napa number.

I'd rather use the 51806 instead of the original standpipe. The check valve in the standpipe is pretty restrictive looking.
