So, I'm working on a turbo build that I expect could get up to 500 lb-ft. Right now there's a healthy but stock 904 in there. Is it possible to modify the 904 to live behind that sort of torque, maybe by putting V8 parts in there, or better to use something more heavy duty? |

Yes. I would use V8 parts (HD clutch and 4-pinion planetaries) for that. Tilley has a 904 behind his monster turbo. Lou |

That's good to hear. 904s are supposed to be one of the best drag transmissions out there, and I prefer to work with what I've got. |

Back in the day, one of the local racers built a 904 to put behind a built 360 abive the range you are wanting. He had a 727 but surmised that the 904 would shift faster than the 727 would. He worked with a local mopar tranny guru on the build and mods, it helped shave a little off his 1/4 time and with all the abuse he heaped on it, it never tanked on him. So choose the right guts and you will be golden.-D.Idiot |

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hup-hp1290 Throw one of those or something similar in it. I'm building one for my drag car, everyone I know who has a 904 never complains or has problems... |

Is it a street car or a drag car? How heavy? |

Get a good valve body and all the V-8 guts and you'll be fine. |

Thanks, I figured something like that might be possible. |

I used the internals from a small block A999. Manual VB and good clutches as well. No issues. |
