Post subject:  "OIL" dummy light comes on

I just changed the oil in my '77 D100 with a slant6/3speed last weekend but I couldn't remove the oil filter, so it has the old filter on it. Before I changed it, I degreased the engine bay the day before. I added a can of "Restore" engine treatment before I added the new oil (I've had great luck with this stuff in the past). I also replaced the valve cover gasket and cleaned the valve cover. The gasket was old, brittle and leaking everywhere. I also replaced the valve cover breather with a Mr. Gasket unit from a parts store (doesn't have the hose connecting to the air cleaner anymore) and replaced the oil cap with a universal chrome one from the parts store as well (doesn't like to tighten very good...I need to order a Mopar unit).
The next day I drove to my dads house, about an hour away. Half way there, the oil light came on. I let the truck sit when I got to his house and it went away. Did it again on the way home. Around town and going back and forth to work, it never comes on, but if I drive a long distance, it does. It's also hard to hear from all the wind noise from all the horrible weatherstripping, but it seems that at around 70mph and going up a hill to where I need the accelerator to the floor, I hear the engine ticking kinda loud, and I feel a slight vibration through the accelerator pedal/floor intermittently (more than normal).
I check the oil whenever I drive it and it's at full. What could it be? Oil sensor? Something else more serious?

so you changed the oil -- but not the filter? that is not an oil change, I would get that filter removed ASAP.

do some reading using the search function--
A lot of info on oil filters & the slant six oil pump

does your filter have a bypass valve built in? how cruddy is the oil pump & filter area, A lot of options,
Also aftermarket oil pressure gauge.

Yeah I couldnt get the filter off...someone tightened the living hell out of it. The whole engine is pretty cruddy because of the valve cover leaking for God knows how long. Guess I have some digging to do...and eventually I am going to replace the gauge cluster with a custom made panel with custom gauges.

Hopefully, you at least have a band-style Oil Filter wrench. If you don't, get one: trying to remove those suckers by hand without any leverage is a losing game.

And seriously: if it can't be removed with the help of an Oil Filter Wrench, it must be actually welded on!
