Guys

I have a 62 0.030 over aluminum block, a standard compression setup with cleaned rods and polished journals, an elctroweld 1bbl intake, a late 60's head, new seats, stock cam, correct flywheel 122 teeth. Recurved clone of the distributor, wider throat manual part number EGR. Powder coated valve cover oil pan and timing cover, chrome alternator.

Should I go with the new exhaust manifold and powder coat, or use split dual hedders? It's kinda the last step and scavenged gasses can equal more mileage? Or just horsepower gains?

leads me to think that a stock exhaust with a working damper flap is what you need.

I never flowed one, but the stock manifold is not the likely choke point for a stock one bbl manifold,,I would use a burr ball and clean up the rough stuff I see, do a port match and call it a day.

Since the 1 barrel is going to flow a max of 185 cfm (at best...a little less if an economaster version, but get much better metering and signal), the 2.25" single pipe is going to be able to flow what it can put out (and should be good up to 230-280 cfm or so). If the cam had lots of lift/duration and you had more carb, and more compression you would see more developed power out of the headers, on a street driven car with a short cam and a 1 barrel you might get a couple more HP out of it, but not enough to make another 1 mpg. Most likely without the heatbox under the manifold you'll lose all that in the fall/winter time.

I really like this board. Ask a question, get an answer.

Boom.

So I just find a Holley 1945, no special numbers on the horn or a tag, and the vacuum switches and the temp comtrols for the 1976 system to work? Any leads on what they look like & where they are?

I have a super six air cleaner to trade.

if you wanted a no hassels 2 bbl I would recommed a BBD
if you feel a bit more adventuresome with a 2bbl, and wanted to go the path less traveled,, a Holley 2280

since you are going 1 bbl, and there is nothing wrong with that, I would go with a Holley 1920,, good reliable carb,
