Post subject: | oil down in the coil |
hi I just posted about a fuel problem I was having.it would die as it was driving.so I went to change the coil 1st.before I got deeper.and there was an oil type substance down in the coil.im sure this was the problem..i hope anyway.i ve never seen this before has anyone else heard of this..and would this make it die as were driving down the road.? I know, sounds like a stupid question .and im sure this would cause some un safe issues.but have to ask.it could sit and idle all day long but when we drive it we only get 2 or 3 miles and dies..but,switching the coil should help now. I hope I fixed the issue.i will let you all know.and if this does the trick.if so, its something to keep in mind for the next guy.or gal.check the coil 1st."if it dies and you still seem to be getting gas.but wont start.change the coil"..i will let you know.God Bless..Barry. |

Those "cannister" style coils are oil-filled (AFAIK it's used to cool the windings). So if yours was leaking then it's likely that was on its way out. If replacing the coil fixes the problem, then great. Personally I like to confirm failure when possible- it's part of my job. So I'd use an adjustable spark tester to see if the old coil could put out enough spark- esp when it wouldn't start. |

Coils are cheap. It's time to replace before you get stranded. oil seeping out is not good. Greg |
