Post subject:  Flywheel ???

So Im on the hunt for an Np435 Bellhousing for a slant. Im also needing the flywheel. I have a 833/od behind the slant I plan to use. I asked on another forum if I could use it but the answer was not to my understanding and babble about the flywheel size and how he was using bigger? Anyway Seems I can get new but it has the same part number as a 318. Are slants internally balanced?

You can use a 318 flywheel, but you will have to mill out one flywheel bolt hole as the crank pattern is slightly different.

Not my area of expertise, but I think you have to use the proper diameter flywheel for the bellhousing so the starter will work.

Advance lists the same Flywheel for 318 and the slant.

The slant calls for 11" clutch and 318 the 10.5"

Same year different motors Rockauto lists different flywheels for each. I can not account for what is the right course but rockauto lists a 11" for a slant and 10.5,11 and 12 inch for the 318.

If it were me and I was bound and determined I would take the one I have and measure EVERYTHING count the teeth then order from a local parts house the other flywheel and measure EVERYTHING. If they measure out well then good to go if not then you need to decide how to proceed.

I know at least measure the diameter of the center hole. The spacing of the bolt holes and size. The outside diameter and the number of teeth.

If your lending the cash to buy something that might be wrong

I said from a local place because you can always return it but if it is a normally stocked item they can bring it in let you compare it and if its right buy it if not they can send it back to the warehouse. Unfortunately though unless someone here or the other site knows the answer you are going to have to come up with the answer.

They don't stock the flywheel. Even if they did it says 11"clutch. rockautos says 11"cover.advance's also says 130tooth.

Not sure it will help you or just add confusion but looking at standard equipment in the '77 Dealership Databook:
/6 D100: 6-cylinder 10" clutch
/6 D200: 6-cylinder 11" clutch
v8 D100/D200: 8-cylinder 11" clutch

D100s had Np435s also in slant and V8 form. W100-300 is only an Np435 or 445. 833/odd is 2wd only and D100-150

Post subject:  But...

The 318 flywheel is different from the slant flywheel, and you also have to watch it as there are 2 different slant flywheel ring gears (some up through the mid-70's can have the 172 or so toothcount and use the direct drive starter- all the 60's-'72 are this way, the mid-70's saw rise of the 130 tooth count ring gear to allow the truck to use the standard starter.)

I still have fun left modifying the denso starter to use a 9 tooth gear Dan sold me for the 60's application.

You can also use car-part.com to see if someone close may have the set up you need, there are a fair number of 80's Dodge trucks coming into the yards now with this set up, so they are common for a little while longer.

Yeah I asked somebody I know that's full of Mopar info. crank bolt pattern is different. The Np435 is suppose to take a 143tooth flywheel. The one the parts store has that's the "same"as the 318 is only 130. I'll find one eventually
