Post subject:  Brake hose change
*Disclaimer* Ive never messed with brakes before. *Disclaimer*

Since owning Lillian she has always been a bit difficult to stop. Like needing to put all my weight into the pedal to stop her.
I crawled under her yesterday and spotted a cut in the left front line. Along with a fluid drip running(not excessive or anything) along the bottom. I need to just go ahead and replace all these hoses. Are they universal hoses? Just measure and buy? Example something like http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performance- ... 3/10002/-1. Granted the connectors match.

Also, should I expect alot of fluid to come out once I undo one of these cables?

No, Not universal.

use the rockauto.com catalog to find the hoses you need and get them.


Also you will need to bleed the brakes after changing the hose(s)


Find someone in your area who is knowledgeable with automotive braking system service and install to help.

Does your car Have Power Brakes?

I am guessing not - But with Old Non power factory drums that is the amount of pedal effort required with those types of systems.

You may need to get the Wheel cylinders and or master cylinder evaluated or replaced/rebuilt as well if the car has been sitting for any length of time.


Do not try to just slap the hose on there and drive with out proper bleeding of the system.. you will injure yourself and possibly others :-(

Please get some help here - and find someone who is willing to show you how to do this correctly so you know for the future.

Thanks for your input Greg. I plan on pulling the engine for cleaning and new gasket purposes. Would be a great time for me to clean and flush lines.
