Post subject:  still no spark

So i am having trouble getting my 72 scamp with a slant six to start. I cant get any spark to the distributor. I already replaced ignition coil, cap, ballestic ressistor and wires, points and brand new disturbitor. I am getting the 12v to coil when trying to start but no spark. I tried testing the coil while starting the car using a screw driver to get spark, but no luck. Someone told me to replace the distributor and than it should all work . Even if the distributor is bad wouldnt i still get spark at coil right ? Also i have to try and start the car in nuetral, could that be the problem ? Could the timing being off make it not spark ?

How I would test this is check voltage at the ballast resistor top (battery voltage) then bottom (about 3-4 volts lower). If all is well there then test coil positive should be the same as ballast bottom. If all is well there then Check voltage at coil negative should be close to coil positive. If good there then check voltage at capacitor under cap. If good there then check voltage at the points. These should be the same voltage as the coil negative. If all is good there then disconnect coil from distributor and use an old spark plug to plug into the coil wire. Ground the threads of the spark plug and watch carefully while starting for a spark across the gap. If you have spark there then the next is to check each plug in the block.

ignition start/run -> ballast top -> ballast bottom -> coil positive -> coil negative -> noise capacitor -> points
