I am finally getting to finish up my motor. I got the crank and pistons in and lubed the cam and slid it in. I got the cam installed dot to dot and then started checking the timing.

This is my first time degreeing a cam I have all ways just lined up the dots and been ok. I have read a bunch on how to check if the cam is right against the cam card but unsure about moving centerlines.

Here is the cam specs off the card.
Lobe separation Angle 108+2
Intake centerline 106
@.050" intake opens 13.00. Exhaust closes 5.00
Intake closes 45.00. Exhaust opens 45.00
Duration intake 238.0. Duration Exhaust .230
Intake lobe lift .340. Exhaust lobe lift .325
Overlap 18.00

Now I got 15* BTDC intake open and 47* BBDC. So am I 2* advanced or is it a total of 4* because the duration is .242 instead of .238?

I am really trying to install it closer to a 102 center line per a few people's recomendations. I am not sure how to proceed. Is it trial and error one tooth at a time what numbers would I be looking for then.

If your numbers are correct the cam is installed at a ICL of 106, which is exactly as the card says - 2 degrees advanced from the LSA of 108.

4 more degrees of advance will get you to 102.

What timing set do you have? If you have an adjustable one, just put the key at the +4 mark and line up the +4 tooth with the cam tooth.

If you don't have an adjustable set you will have to make it adjustable - some guys have successfully used offset bushings and a drilled cam gear.
