Post subject: | A Body Lower Control Arm Bushing Removal |
Hello, I was Just curious about lower control bushing removal. I was able to remove the stud from the center with the press. After removing the stud is there a correct way to get the rest of the bushing / Shell out? I just burned the rubber out with a torch and then took a die grinder and ground a line down on the inside of the outer sleeve until I had enough play to knock it out with a chisel. is there another way to do it? Just curious. PS.. pressing it back together was a breeze! Greg |

You've already come to one of the best methods going by grinding out part of the bushing shell. Some weld a washer to the shell so it can be pressed out. Of course this requires access to and use of a welder. |

If you are going with a poly bushing you need to leave the inner sleve attached to shaft. If not remove it the same way by cutting a few slots along the length with a cut off wheel/die grinder. |

Thanks Romeo. This was with a standard bushing install. So No saving metal shells. Greg |

I welded a washer in when we did ours. We used the nylon bushings from Firmfeel, which apparently don't require saving the outer sleeve. |

Nice article and photos, best I have seen. This write up has been added to my Favorites Suspension folder along with a video showing how to take the slop out of a lower control arm; thanks. |
