I have a '77 Dodge D100 that I'm going to make as a very nice street/show truck and I am curious to know how easy or hard it is to build a turbo setup for the slant sixes. I do want to keep the slant in the truck because everyone wants to ditch theirs for gas-guzzling V8's (I do have a '72 truck with a 318 just in case) and fuel economy is important to me. I miss having a boosted vehicle after selling my old '87 Buick GN a and I think a turbo'd Dodge truck would be awesome! Not gonna lie...I am really building this for "wow" factor so I can hopefully someday get into the "Classic Trucks" magazines and an original 225 with a good turbo setup is unexpected. Thanks for any and all info! |

Building the turbo setup isn't that bad, figure out if you want to make a head or adapt an exhaust manifold to bolt the turbo up then plumb the cold side and countless other things that have to be addressed depending on what your power goal is. The tuning can be a head scratcher at points that was mostly my choice in carb, problems from the start. I enjoy it all though fun daily driver. Kev |

X-2!!! We built a turbo'd slant six and have spent as much time on trying to get it "tuned" as we have on everything else in this build. Do yourself a favor; either go with an EFI that is easily tuneable, or pay some third party who REALLY knows what he's doing, to tune it for you. My best advice... Bill, in Conway, Arkansas |

If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone with fuel injection instead of blow-thru carb. The tuning with a blow-thru carb can be a real headache... Don't use throttle body fuel injection, go for port fuel injection! Brian |

In my case, there was no if - I started with a carb that had been badly prepped by someone who didn't know what he was doing, and did have to redo everything and go EFI.Don't use throttle body fuel injection, go for port fuel injection! Brian Getting a blow through carb to work for drag applications is doable (I just had a bad starting point), but getting one to maintain an accurate air/fuel ratio both on boost and off boost is pretty tricky. |

I would go blow through again but I would have started with a reputable blowthrough carb instead of the barry grant that went out of business. I had to cut regular air bleeds to fit this carb since I couldn't find the correct ones anywhere and mine has throttle plate issues from day one after I got the stuff squared away that shouldn't have been a problem with a brand new carb it runs good now after much head scratching and tuning. I also did the boost reference power valve mod to help economy. Kev |

Thanks for all the feedback! I thought about efi, but why not TB? And for port injection, are there any affordable kits? |

Also, there is a shop in Minneapolis called Modern Automotive Performance (MAP) and ive heard nothing but good things about them. They are some of the best tuners around! I should get in contact with them and see what they suggest. I also have a local guy who is big into turbos and knows his $#!+. I can ask him for some advice too. |
