What carburetor is better if they are both in perfect condition. Please explain it for both performance and fuel economy, or is it just an emission thing that lead to the changes to the high / tin top carter BBD. I have both carbs and just trying to decide which one to use. The high top one has holes in the throttle plates, so I guess it is a V8 one, where as the earlier carb was a 6 cylinder item. Also what's the deal on the later electronic mixture controlled ones that came out on the Jeep. Is it feasible to make one of these carbs work on a slant 6? |

See HERE, especially the second book in that PDF.Please explain it for both performance and fuel economy, or is it just an emission thing that lead to the changes to the high / tin top carter BBD. Thank Reed. I've got some reading to do now. I have originally tried to search, but obviously tried the wrong search words. I had read thishttp://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p= ... +v8#345739 Here it suggests the V8 carb is usable, but now I know the venturi size is different and the step up piston is limited in travel. With the high top, which is brand new, I've just changed the throttle plates to ones without the holes, as I put it on and found that I couldn't get the idle speed slow enough. It actually run quite well on the engine, although I think the engine wasn't quite as responsive to medium acceleration, with medium throttle. i didn't have it on long enough to compare fuel consumption. I was just about to put the high top back on, but in light of the venturi size, Should I just use the older low top carburetor? Is this correct, or can I modify the V8 BBD to be as good or better with regards to drivability and economy. Obviously the V8 one with the larger Venturi will flow more, and will perhaps offer more peak power. Is this correct. |
