I keep seeing SL6 A727. What I have in my 1980 Dodge is a Loadflite A727 w/lockup. I am pondering dropping a small block LA V8 into this truck. Will the trans bolt up and work? TIA |

No. The bellhousing is completely different between the slant six and v-8 versions. You will need to get a v-8 transmission if you want to put a v-8 in your vehicle. |

Wise choice. If you are looking to free up some horsepower, consider switching to a 904. If you get one form the 80s it will have the wide gear ratio gearset that help heavy vehicles like pickups get moving from a stop. |

Reed, I don't want to swap trannys tho. The one I have is like new. I still need to solve this flat spot off idle. How would you go about troubleshooting something like this? Once I get past the initial stumble everything seems right. After I get that sorted out I'm going to rig up cold air ducting and install an electric fan. Should be worth a little more power. |

Sounds like your pump shot (accelerator pump) is weak..... with the engine off, take a peak down the throat while giving it a quick pump. Does it look like someone turned on a fire hose? or is it weak..... |

Yup, what Ted said. Check the pump shot on your carb and also verify that the vacuum advance on the distributor is properly hooked up and is functioning correctly. |
