Hello. i am anticipating a move in aproximatly four weeks. I am needing to press my 72 valiant into tow service.. ( small utility trailer ) The vehicle is up to task, but my concern is the connection of the brake and turn signals. the trailer has a plug style connector. Is anyone able to point me towards the proper splice points? Thanks for your consideration. Russ |

Oooooo, this is a tough one. There is no factory splice point on that wiring harness. You must very carefully splice into the wiring harness that runs up the driver's side of the car in the trunk. You likely have a flat four pin plug, right? The four wires are ground, left turn signal, right turn signal, and brake/running light. This page: http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx tells you what color wires go to what circuit on the car. Use a test light or a factory wiring diagram to determine what wire in the trunk is on what circuit. Be sure to upgrade the turn signal flasher to a heavy duty unit and to use the correct watt bulbs in the stop and turn lamps. |

I also recommend posi-tap connector rather than scotch-lok connectors. http://www.posi-lock.com/posiplug.html And good luck finding and inexpensive class one hitch. Hitches haven't been stocked for A bodies for probably twenty years now. your best bet is to either find somebody on a Mopar board that has an old one or pay to have a custom one fabricated. |

Trailer rental places used to have bulbs with a pigtail on it,solved the problem of cutting wires. |

I've got 5 cents worth on this subject. 1. I fab'd up a 1 1/4 receiver hitch for my '65 scavaged from a ford escape and mig'd in with some old angle iron. It Is Solid and I am overly proud of myself. 2. Then, realized that I really wanted a trans cooler and fab'd one in. 3. I've got 2 or 3 sets of the old u-haul pigtail bulbs if anyone wants them for shipping costs. I'll check to make sure they work before boxing. 4. The ford escape had the modern u-haul trailer pigtail setup. It has a box with a separate power run which is triggered from the car's wiring, providing power to the trailer independent of the car tail light wiring. Although it was designed for modern wiring limitations, it seems like a very good idea and I'll be working it into the plan. That said, Good Luck with the move. Don |

Don, Thankyou for the offer on the old pigtail lamps. I wound up tapping into the factory harness with an inexpensive trailer 4 terminal harness. It worked out well. I probably spent more time we with the routing and making it look factory, then in the actual connections. The hitch itself is a modified craiglist find. Overbuilt for safety. Thanks for the reply. |
