I don't know anything about how Predators meter their fuel: could be interesting...

thats what i was thinking. they use doors at the base of the carb that open with the air flow. i have one but it needs to be rebuilt and would never fit under my hood to try. with the 390-900 cfm rating i would think that it would work well and should be pretty easy to tune. it would run normal at idle and give it everything its got when you get into the boost.

A guy in Naples I used to know ran a blown draw through with 2 Preds on a 392. He couldn't get them to work right. Went back to Carters.

I don't even know if you can still get rebuild parts for them any longer. They went out of business quite a while back. Would be a neat project though if you decide to try it.

Post subject:  No Blow-Thru Predators...

In their FAQ section, it specifically says it can work well with a draw-thru turbo... I would assume that pretty much explains that it won't work with a blow-thru system.

there is a guy making a kit for them and the overhaul kits are still available. what the guy fails to mention is that the kit does not come with the original equipment accelerator pump diaphragm and that you will need to machine the carb to use the one he sends you.

alot of people just turn their noses up at the thought of a blowthrough carb so i would imagine that they never really tried it. with the way that the carb functions i cant see how it wouldnt work. if i can get mine going again i may throw it on and see what happens once i get my setup up and running. ill be sure to let everyone know the outcome if i do.

I'm surprised to hear that "attitude" about blow-thru carbs, seeing as how both Tom Wolfe and Ryan Peterson have Holley blow-thru's on their engines and both make really good power on gasoline (estimates of over 500 hp being in the majority.)

That ain't hay....

What's better? A carb in a pressurized box, or blow through?

putting it in a box seems like it would be a pita. not to mention the thing is huge to begin with. it wont fit under my hood to begin with let alone with a carb hat.

imho blow through is better.

I keep buying them and i keep trying and end up selling them. Rebuld kit doesnt include the metering block does it? Prerry much all gaskets that you can cut yourself. The backfire flaps are just thin rubber sheet, like an inner tube. Blow through..your going to have to pressurize the fuel bowl too or you'll halt or blow fuel out the breathers but i think they go above the venturi anyway. Maybe it can work the cams can be made, trial and error with a wideband, shave to lean. There are 2. Idle and no idle. If you put a decent spring in the linkage pulling the meter valve down, you can adjust it much easier if not you have to consider slop in screw to move valve up and down for mixture. You know? I think they would make better efi housings, put 4 big injectors in there too fog intake and put tps on throttle shsft. Diy wilson v-power.

the rebuild kit comes with the gaskets. the overhaul kit that is getting harder to find comes with metering rods and everything else you should need. not sure of the metering block. ive never had mine open just bolted it on and it worked pretty well aside from the accelerator pump leaking like a siv.
