That's unfortunate you had that experience with SSBC. My experience with them and their product was just the opposite. I experienced great service and was shipped a complete and operable brake package per their catalog. Attached is the link to my installation.

It's kind of ironic that you should post to this thread, because I remember reading your post (the one you linked to above) when I was doing my homework on SSBC before I ordered their kit.

As I mentioned in the post that begins this thread, I have no beef with their products, its their inventory management and customer service that made for such a lousy experience.

Who knows what happened over there. Maybe the folks who now how to runs things took the summer off. Maybe the company has gone to the dogs since 2008. Lord only knows...

But after the extremely frustrating experience I had with them, I can't recommend them to anyone.

On the other hand, I can and do strongly recommend Scarebird.

Any tips on installing the scarebird stuff? I want to use them for my '66 Dart. Any issues worth mentioning? What was your total cost if you don't mind me asking.

Not dogging Scarebird, but aren't the early drum spindles a weak link? Isn't that a big part of the reason to get the 1973-75 A-Body spindles (+ extra caster, Bigger Upper Ball joints, Heavier-Duty?)
One of the 65' cars in the local salvage yards has a broken(driverside) spindle, but only rearend damage ( I guess it could have been slammed into a curb or something?wheels are gone.)

Hmmm I would love to hear more opinions on that. I know the ball joints are smaller, but have not heard that the spindles were weak

Erhnberg has written in some of the Mopar rags, that the 9" spindles are weak. He has also written that F-body spindles won't work either as a subsitute for the A-body disk brake spindles. So people believe him others don`t.

Here are the costs:

Scarebird kit: $475
Master cylinder and booster (The Right Stuff): $232

So that totals $707. The SSBC kit was priced at a bit over $1,100.
Here's a link to the Scarebrid kit I got:

1960-72 Dodge, Plymouth "A" body, with 9" drums

The mechanic who did the install described the Scarebird kit as "a pleasure to work with" and said that it didn't require any 'shop floor mods' like some more expensive disc brake conversion kits they'd installed in the past.

Kesteb- I've read an article about the f/m/j spindles where they used computer testing,and deemed them safe, but Ebooger might be right about the 9" spindle being a weak link after seeing Dan's photos.
