You will have to get the rulebook for your local track, what is good at one is not at the others. At Woodburn they state no hose longer than 6", and I've asked and they have waffled about braided or rubber doesn't matter (this was during a test and tune- not during a slant six event weekend), yet when we have a points race I've had the tech look under the hood and go "slant six?" then check the card off without an inspection. 5/16" hose should be fine unless you are going to run an all out high cfm carb/rpm configuration.
It might also be fine if it has professionally prepped fittings on each end as well for threaded connections (i.e. fuel pump, EFI rail, etc..)

Braided line is fine at Mason Dixon. I had no idea that it was not acceptable everywhere :?

My all time favorite they gave Doc crap about something under his hood and followed with the comment "That may fly in California but here we don't allow that..."

Stainless or woven fabric braided hose is acceptable anywhere. Rubber hose is only allowed in short lengths totalling 12" or less for the whole system.

The proper Aeroquip braided hose is rated for a lot of pressure,Im guessing 3000 psi,(it's been a long time),all I'm getting at is it can take way more pressure than any system on the average drag car. I'm amazed some scrutineers won't accept it. If you look under the cowling of a more complex piston engine aircraft you will see a birds nest of this stuff,hydraulic,engine oil,fuel hoses,oil feed to turbos etc etc. I never really went for using braided hose and then using those cheapo worm drive clamps,seems a waste of hose to me,but when used in its correct way with "AN" fittings I really don't see the problem. If its near a hot exhaust or turbo just fit fire sleeve to protect. Like all hose it still has a life before it gets stiff and needs replacing.

There is braided hose, and then there is braided hose. There are several different liner materials, and end styles. The proper braided hose is accepted by all race tracks. The "phony" stuff, that uses hose clamps is not considerd "approved" hose.

Something else to make note of, not all hose is equal. In addition to the variations between good and not so good brands there is rubber lined and teflon lined braided hose. The max pressure rating for each is considerably different!!!

Be aware that this stuff currently sold as "gasoline" at the pumps is VERY aggressive to older rubber fuel hose. If you're going to use rubber, be sure to get the much more expensive "low emissivity" hose or, if the car hasn't burned down, you'll be replacing it again soon. I'm not sure that rubber lined braided hose has kept up with this, it may not be a very good or long term choice for pump fuel.
